ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ॥
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ॥

Beej is the Punjabi word for seed, or to sow a seed. ‘Beej Sowing Seeds’ represents the sowing of the seeds of love, of life, of patience, courage, humility, resilience, forgiveness, contentment - all with mindfully loving intentions. These are seeds from which the life journey of an infant, a thought, a moment, a vision, an action, come into existence, reminding us of all that was, is and will be.

Beej is deeply rooted in our oneness with the Creator; air - our Guru; water - our Father, and earth - our Mother. Each of us are unique like a flower in a meadow, yet we are all connected and grow in the depths of the same soil. Our roots embrace one another and we nurture and help each other grow.

Beej is here to empower expectant parents by helping to bring them to a space of comfort, ease and confidence within themselves and in their nurturing bodies. Our non-medical care begins before labour, continuing throughout labour and birth, and includes immediate postpartum support. We provide compassionate guidance that addresses physical, emotional, and informational needs so that parents feel confident, connected and rooted in their minds and bodies, ready to embrace this meditative journey of birthing and nurturing their little seeds and sprouts.

We are mindful of the importance of the birth-giver being surrounded by individuals who will be there for them in ways that they need. We would be honoured to be this support for you in whichever way your birthing journey blossoms.

Questions

Answers to help you understand what doula support means for your birth.

What does a birth doula do?

A birth doula helps to prepare you with the knowledge and tools for your labour and birth, so that you feel more confident going on this journey no matter how it unfolds. The birth doula will be present as emotional, physical and informational support throughout, whether this takes place in your home and/or in a hospital setting.

Is doula support right for me?

Doula support benefits any mother who wants to feel more confident during birth. Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, whether you plan a hospital birth or a home birth, a doula meets you where you are. A doula is not here to take your partner’s/family’s place, but to be a supportive, comforting hand and a guide wherever you need.

When should I book a doula?

The best time to book a doula is early in pregnancy, though we welcome mothers at any stage. Connecting earlier would allow us to have our prenatal meetings, get to know one other and build trust before your upcoming birth.

We are DAFGP (Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program) Approved. If you or your partner (if applicable) are of Indigenous descent and reside in BC, please let us know so that we can help you apply for this grant.

Will labour & birth support be provided at my home and at the hospital?

Yes. In case you plan to birth your baby at the hospital, we would support you at your home until you are ready to shift to the hospital, where we would meet you and support you until you birth your baby.

I have a midwife, do I still need a birth doula?

This would depend on the type of care and support that you want and need. Midwives provide medical care and may be responsible for caring for multiple families simultaneously. Birth doulas provide continuous non-medical support during labour & birth, whether that be emotional, physical, and/or informational support for you, as well as being a guiding hand for any family/friends you may choose to invite into your birthing space.
